Biography
Henry Dunay is an American pioneer who began creating collections defined by distinctive textures—a design language he has built upon and refined over the years, spanning everything from earrings to cuff links. These textures became his signature, earning him lasting recognition worldwide.
In 1999 and 2000, The Robb Report named Dunay "America's Finest Designer." He is the founder and former president of the American Jewelry Design Council and has received more than 50 national and international awards in the fine jewelry design world.
Henry Dunay is a legend in our lifetime. As Joyce Jonas, jewelry historian, professor, and president of the Society of Jewelry Historians, puts it: "He has an innate sense of rhythm that is reflected in his jewelry designs."
A four-time Diamond International Award winner, Dunay designed "The Lachrymosa Mask," worn by Elizabeth Taylor to raise funds for amfAR, as well as a ring created for the inaugural ball of First Lady Hillary Clinton. Dunay specializes in crafting one-of-a-kind pieces that are collected worldwide. His distinguished patrons have included Princess Diana, Nicole Kidman, Diana Ross, and Margaret Thatcher.
Dunay's designs are instantly recognizable for their boldness and beauty—a rare combination of large gemstones, imaginative forms, and sensually elegant shapes accented with magical details that transform each piece into wearable art.
His "Cinnabar Collection," inspired by ancient Chinese art, features hand-engraved textures in gold and platinum, with intricate pavé that builds entire imaginary scenes and landscapes. Other landmark collections include the "Sabi" and "Faceted" textures, which have become synonymous with the
Dunay name:
Faceted: A brilliant, dazzling texture
Sabi: A satiny sheen with timeless appeal
Henry Dunay designed the Cinnabar Yellow Diamond Ring to be worn at the 1992 Presidential Inauguration. Hillary Clinton wore the Cinnabar Ring, which features a 4.23-carat flawless rough Canary Diamond from Carthage, Arkansas.
